Background
SpendWitty is a subscription app that allows you to join different clubs and tiers of memberships. Each club offers exclusive local deals, that the user can redeem at multiple vendors.
Challenge
SpendWitty is an existing native app that was built out a few years ago. Not only has a lot changed in the world of UX in just a few years, but the business model of SpendWitty had also changed. The initial launch of the platform offered free and subscription based deals from each individual vendor. The challenge was to change these individual “deals” into a club format where multiple vendors could join a club of their choosing. Working within a tight deadline, we updated both the UX functionalities to bring them current, as well as updated the overall functionality of the app to fit the new business model.
Current State Heuristic Analysis
Working with only a set amount of hours for UX, UI, as well as dev it was important to analyze the current features in the app and determine where to dedicate the hours allocated for this project. Quickly we analyzed what was currently in the app and prioritized what would need to be updated.
Flow Diagrams
Some of the UX updates that we had prioritized were things like a new redemption flow. Currently the user just flashes the screen to the vendor, and the vendor has to navigate through the user’s profile to then redeem the reward. This flow not only allows room for users to potentially redeem a specific reward more than once, but it is also complicated on the vendor end and requires more than 5 clicks to finally get to the designated screen to redeem. Being as it was one of the key activities the user would be performing, we developed a redemption code system that would tie a unique 4-digit code to the specific redemption, ultimately making it more secure as well as a better user experience on the vendor side. The client had also asked for the capability to pay through Venmo and Paypal, so research and flows were done accordingly.
